WHY IT IS WORTH CLEANING YOUR HAIRBRUSH REGULARLY?

We reach for a hairbrush at least twice a day, and most of us probably do so even more often. How many of us clean it regularly?
Researchers from the University of Arizona have presented studies showing that as many as 1,342 bacterial colonies can build up on a hairbrush – far more than on a sink, for example. Besides hair, dust, sebum, dead skin and residue from cosmetics collect on it, and together these form a breeding ground for bacteria. So how can the skin of our scalp be healthy and well cared for, and our hair shiny, if we spread all of this along the length of our strands? Instead, we end up with hair that gets oily faster and loses its freshness.
Cleaning your brush is recommended once a week, and the task takes no more than 3–5 minutes, so let’s forget the excuse “I don’t have time” :).
You’re probably wondering how to do it, so here are our tips:
- Remove all the hair from the brush, using tweezers for any that are difficult to pull out.
- Dampen the brush under the tap, apply shampoo or conditioner and clean thoroughly (a nail brush will help here).
- Shake off excess water, spray with disinfectant and leave to dry.
If you have a wooden brush, it is worth applying a drop of natural oil, e.g. avocado oil. Afterwards, wipe it with a paper towel.
You’ll see that regular cleaning becomes second nature, and your hair will appreciate it too. So off to the bathroom and to work! 🙂
