Several theories circulate about hair, which most of us have probably come across at least once. Which of them are true, and which are not? Here’s a quick read 🙂
- CUTTING HAIR SPEEDS UP ITS GROWTH.
MYTH. Trimming hair has no effect on what happens at the root and has nothing to do with its growth. After a trim, the ends look fuller and healthier, which may give the impression of faster growth.
Hair grows from the follicle, so if we want to stimulate growth, we should focus on scalp treatments, while not forgetting regular scalp exfoliation and massage.

- PULLING OUT A GREY HAIR WILL MAKE SEVERAL GREY ONES GROW IN ITS PLACE
MYTH. And it’s a very common one! However, this is not possible, because only one strand grows from each hair follicle. It is true, though, that the next hair to grow after one is removed will also be grey. This happens when melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells, die off. - THE SCALP SHOULD BE WASHED TWICE
FACT. Washing twice allows the scalp and hair to be thoroughly cleansed of sebum. The first wash should be short and consist mainly of wetting the head, a preliminary wash and a rinse. Spend a few minutes on the second wash, massaging gently. Remember, you don’t need to use shampoo along the whole length of the hair – the lather from rinsing is enough for it. - WE LOSE AROUND 100 HAIRS EVERY DAY
FACT. This is a completely natural phenomenon and should not cause concern. The average scalp has around 100,000 hairs, of which 10% are in the resting/shedding phase. However, bear in mind that one day we may lose fewer hairs and another day more. This depends, among other things, on how often we wash, brush or tie our hair.

- USING A HAIRDRYER DAMAGES HAIR
MYTH, if you don’t use hot air, which dries out the hair and can damage its structure. Drying with a cool blast takes longer, but is the most beneficial. In addition, it closes the hair cuticle. - SPLIT ENDS CAN BE REPAIRED
MYTH. Various tips on how to make it happen circulate online. However, be aware that nothing can actually regenerate such damage, and the only option for damaged ends is to cut them off.
